VUZE Medical

VUZE Medical is developing a groundbreaking software-only solution for intraoperative guidance in skeletal surgery, particularly focusing on spine surgeries that have traditionally received less attention and innovation (often referred to as the “Neglected Majority”). These surgeries, typically manual and guided solely by X-ray, regularly involve short spinal segments and are increasingly performed in outpatient or ambulatory settings. VUZE integrates real-time 2D X-rays (along with a standard pre-surgery CT scan in 3D), providing surgeons with crucial online images that are currently unavailable.

The company’s record includes two prior endeavors, each of which has become a Standard of Care in its respective field. Super Dimension (now Medtronic) achieved this status in bronchoscopies, boasting 1,000 installations worldwide, while SyncVision (now Philips) accomplished the same in coronary catheterizations, with 2,000 installations worldwide.

VUZE’s immediate focus is on spinal stabilization through implants or cement injections, addressing three million applicable surgeries annually. Other spinal interventions (e.g., endoscopies, injections) and skeletal procedures are expected to follow. VUZE does not seek direct competition with hardware-based navigation and robotic systems. These intricate and costly setups are predominantly used in complex surgeries at large medical centers, addressing a limited, yet intensely competitive, market segment.
